This year the 2024 edition of the Rome History Festival, hosted in the Sala Tempio di Vibia Sabina e Adriano in Piazza di Pietra and in the Council Hall of the Chamber of Commerce, is entitled The character of the Romans - personalities and symbols of the history of Rome. The main theme of the event therefore, is centered on some character aspects which over time have consolidated themselves as representative symbols of an entire people. In fact, there are numerous men and women who have contributed to the thousand-year history of Rome, leaving us with an unmistakable memory. And so, in this edition, we ideally see brilliant artists, corrupt cardinals, writers in search of fortune, proud commoners, brilliant scientists; but also travellers, revolutionaries, popes and emperors parade before us.
Historians, by putting together the story that the sources have handed down to us, together with the work of research, are able to reconstruct a faithful portrait of all these characters, sometimes confirming and sometimes questioning reconstructions that are too celebratory or defamatory.
During the four days of the event, 19 events are scheduled, including 18 master classes, unpublished and free, with the participation of the most important Italian historians, writers and scholars and a meeting between students from two high schools on Friday morning. The event is promoted and organized by the Rome Chamber of Commerce, conceived and designed by Laterza Editors with the patronage of the European Commission and Roma Capitale, Department of Culture.
