For those arriving from the North, the best way to reach the capital is via the Milan-Rome A1 motorway. Those coming from the West of the country should instead take the Aurelia State Road and then the Civitavecchia-Rome A12 motorway.

From the Adriatic Coast, the best route is via the Aquila-Rome A24 motorway.

Finally from the South, the Naples-Rome A1 motorway should be taken. Every motorway joins up with the “Grande Raccordo Anulare” (or G.R.A.-Rome  Ring Road) with os exits for the centre and Rome’ssuburbs.

Taxis in Rome

Want to get around Rome by Taxi?

You can contact a Taxi company by dialling the Numero Unico 060609 or submit your request through the Roma Capitale Chiama Taxi Utente App, downloadable from Google Play (Android) or App Store (Ios).

If you call 060609, you will need to clearly pronounce the address and street number from which you wish to be picked up. Through voice recognition (Automatic Speech Recognition), the system will direct your call to the nearest Taxi stand; a Taxi driver will answer your call to confirm their arrival. If no Taxi is available, the call will be routed by the system directly to the nearest vehicle.

The Taxi service vehicles of Roma Capitale are white and have a sign 'TAXI' on the roof. The symbol of the municipality and the licence number are affixed to the front doors, and can also be found inside the car on the left rear door.

We recommend that, whenever possible, you take the Taxi directly from a dedicated Taxi stand or reserve it by telephone.

Main Taxi Stand Points

Largo di Torre Argentina (between Pantheon and Trastevere), Piazza Fiume (Villa Borghese), Piazza Venezia, Piazza G. Belli (Trastevere), Piazzale Ostiense, Piazza San Silvestro (Trevi Fountain), Piazza dei Cinquecento (Roma Termini Railway Station), Piazzale della Stazione Tiburtina, Metro A Anagnina, Piazzale della Stazione del Lido (Ostia), Piazza Risorgimento (Vatican).

Useful tips

  • Before leaving, check that the taximeter (located above the instrument panel or in the upper part of the front window) is switched on; if it is not, ask the driver to activate it.
  • Always ask for a receipt to be issued, which should show the route, the licence number, the amount paid and the driver's signature.
  • In case of problems/complaints, call the Traffic Police at 0667104282, send an e-mail to tutela.consumatori@comune.roma.it.

Complaints

Any complaints may be addressed to Dipartimento Mobilità e Trasporti, Commissione di Garanzia, Via Capitan Bavastro 94, 00154, Rome.

Discovering Rome riding: quite another charm!

For enthusiasts of cycling there are a few tips to get around in the Eternal City on two wheels along the most characteristic streets without worrying about finding parking.

If you don’t have a bike in Rome you can rent one, in one of the bike rentals (list on www.060608.it).

If you are tired and the goal to be achieved seems too far away, do not worry on holidays, for the duration of the service, and in the evening after 8.00pm are allowed the access of bicycles on the metro lines A and B and the railway line Rome-Lido. The passenger and bicycle are allowed only on the first carriage in the direction of travel of the train.

For subscribers of Metrebus your bicycle is free of charge, or for each bicycle must be purchased a ticket. The folding bicycles do not have to pay the ticket and are admitted every day and for the duration of the service.
For Metrebus subscribers, the transport of the bicycle is free, otherwise the bicycle must also have a ticket unlike folding bicycles which are allowed every day and for the entire duration of the service. Groups (consisting of more than 5 bicycles) must be reported at least 24 hours in advance to or to infomobilita@atac.roma.it.

And if riding seems too difficult for you, but you can not give up the charm of the two wheels, the Capital offers the possibility to rent electric pedal assisted bike and visit Rome will be, no doubt, easier!
Just outside the Aurelian Walls bicycles paths, rent bicycles and especially nature and art await you.

The Appia Antica park is the ideal place for lovers of two wheels; on the bike you can discover the wonders of the via Appia Antica (Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the Villa of Massenzio, the Catacombs), the Park of the Aqueducts and all the Valle della Caffarella.

And much more, bike lanes in Rome will allow you to ride around the city on the Tiber, in Villa Borghese and beyond the border of the capital.
