Re-established as a national holiday by Law no. 27 of 1 March 2024, National Unity and Armed Forces Day commemorates the end of World War I, honoring the sacrifice of more than six hundred thousand fallen soldiers and many more thousands of wounded and maimed. Entered into force on 4 November 1918, the Villa Giusti Armistice ended hostilities and brought to completion the process of the Italian national unification that had begun during the Risorgimento era.
The Ministry of Defense, to celebrate the anniversary with all Italians, is opening the home of the Italian Armed Forces, with free admission, at Circus Maximus from 1 to 4 November. At the “Defense Village”, visitors can attend a series of demonstration events, including flight simulators and military training trials, concerts by the bands of the Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Navy and the 1st Regiment of the Grenadiers of Sardinia, lectures, performances by dog units, projections of the celebrations, live links with military personnel on missions around the world and much more.
