Videocittà 2023 - The Festival of Vision, now in its 6th edition, returns in July again this year in the largest industrial archeology area in Europe: the Gasometer of Rome, thanks to Eni, Main Partner, with the contribution of MiC, the Region Lazio, Municipality of Rome and in collaboration with ANICA.
After last year's success, which registered over 15,000 visitors, the festival conceived by Francesco Rutelli with the creative direction of Francesco Dobrovich, explores the most advanced forms of audiovisual and digital languages in the national and international cultural context: four days of artistic contaminations between immersive creations, video art, talks, live music and av performances to bring the public to the center of a unique collective experience that goes beyond the real world to flow into the digital one. This year's theme is once again Transition, understood as a shared process based on pragmatic and concrete choices, thus making the festival also a vehicle of ethical and civic values.
Inaugurating this edition is the spectacular site-specific work Mater Terrae signed by the international artistic studio Sila Sveta – one of the main producers of avant-garde multimedia shows, including the closing ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – which wraps the metal cylinder bigger than the Gazometer with a whirlwind of video projections together with music by producer and composer Mace. The blast furnace also welcomes Futura, a collective exhibition that brings together the national and international artists who are most representative of the panorama of digital art and contemporary motion graphics. Among the artists involved we mention: the English Tina Touli, considered among the 15 best young designers in the world, the computational designer Vera van de Seyp, the Chinese illustrator and animator Zipeng Zhu but also Federico Leggio, Studio Mistaker and Gianluca Italiano. Finally, this year as well, the festival reserves a large space for video art with a review of three evenings curated by Damiana Leoni and Rä di Martino.
