In addition to the charm of a millenary history, Rome possesses a marvellous seaside soul. Just a few kilometres away from the city centre and a few kilometres to a whole coastline of enchanting beaches. With Ordinance No. 66, signed by the Mayor of Rome, the 2025 bathing season on the Roman coast officially kicked off on 1 May, ending on 30 October.
As usual, general rules and prohibitions have been established for those who wish to spend a day at the seaside and for the managers of the establishments, regulating access and services for free beaches and those under concession.
Free access to the beaches, four-legged friends, prohibitions and rules to be observed, bathing establishment opening hours and services
-
Access to the beaches: The beaches are open to everyone, with public and concession access points. Public access points must remain open, clean, and properly signposted. In the coming months, there will be an assessment of the possibility to create additional access points to facilitate entry for all.
- Free and equipped beaches: Free beaches will maintain their public and free function, with services such as showers, kiosks, and lifeguard zones guaranteed even without equipment rentals. Equipped beaches will offer quality services, with the option to rent sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as access to services without having to pay for equipment.
- Inclusivity and accessibility: Walkways and seasonal shaded areas have been installed, also designed for parents with small children. Accessible toilets for people with disabilities are provided to ensure barrier-free enjoyment for everyone.
- Access and dedicated areas for animals: For the first time, designated and equipped areas for dogs are planned, with water features for our four-legged friends to swim. These areas will be created by concessionaires and will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for our furry companions.
- Behavioural rules and prohibitions: To protect safety, decorum, and the environment, behaviours that may cause disturbance or damage to nature and other users are prohibited.
- Safety and workers’ protection: All concessionaires must comply with the National Labour Contract, ensuring fair working conditions and quality services. Lifeguard services must be active during bathing hours (9:00 am – 7:00 pm). Beach cleaning must be continuous, and tariffs should be clearly displayed to avoid surprises.
- Entertainment and activity hours: Public shows and entertainment activities are permitted until 3:00 am on Fridays, Saturdays, pre-holidays, and public holidays, and until 2:00 am on other days, allowing everyone to enjoy the summer without limits.
- Rules of conduct and sanctions: Serious or repeated violations of the regulations may result in the termination of concessions or management agreements.
