Foto profilo ufficiale Facebook Musei Capitolini

Incredibly evocative and with an unforgettable view over the Roman Forum, the Capitol Hill is a perfect film set, a magical place filled with history and beauty. Following the hashtag #CineCampidoglio, until 31 March you will discover some of the many occasions in which the hill and its monuments have been the backdrop for films and TV series: from the courtyard of Palazzo dei Conservatori in the film version of the novel Portrait of a Lady, to the panorama contemplated by a young Matt Damon in the film The Talented Mr. Ripley or to the statue of Marforio in Sorrentino's masterpiece The Great Beauty.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 1: SKAM ITALIA SEASON 1
The garden along Via di San Pietro in Carcere is Eva’s secret place, where the protagonist of the first season of #SkamItalia goes whenever she needs to think. An evocative place that gives emotions both during the day and with the lights of the evening.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 2: PORTRAIT OF A LADY
In Henry James’s novel Portrait of a Lady, Isabel Archer tells goodbye to Lord Warburton in front of the statue of the Dying Gaul in Palazzo Nuovo. In the 1996 film by Jane Campion, starring Nicole Kidman and John Malkovich, Palazzo Nuovo does not appear but we recognize both the courtyard of Palazzo dei Conservatori and Piazza del Campidoglio.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 3: THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY
In one of the scenes from the The Talented Mr. Ripley, a young Matt Damon walks in the golden light of the late afternoon through the Capitol square, then visits the courtyard of Palazzo dei Conservatori and finally contemplates the remains of the Roman Fora.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 4: THE MARQUIS OF GRILLO
In the 1981 film The Marquis of Grillo, directed by Mario Monicelli, Alberto Sordi plays the role of Onofrio del Grillo and his double, the charcoal burner Gasperino. The film was shot in part inside the Capitoline Museums.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 5: A FRACTURED PLAY
Not all sculptures, paintings and art objects from the Capitoline collections are always visible to the public, some remain for shorter or longer periods inside the deposits, accessible only to insiders. Rosa Barba visited them for us in the short film A Fractured Play.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 6: IN THE NAME OF THE SOVEREIGN PEOPLE
The Constitution of the Roman Republic saw the light in 1849 right on the Capitoline Hill: this and other events are masterfully narrated in the third and final film of Luigi Magni’s “Risorgimento trilogy”, began with The Conspirators (1969), continued with In the Name of the Pope King (1977) and concluded with In the Name of the Sovereign People (1990), which tells the relationship between people, nobles and papal power in 19th-century Rome.

#CINECAMPIDOGLIO 8: TO ROME WITH LOVE
To Rome with Love: the passionate gaze of a brilliant American director on Piazza del Campidoglio and its splendid pavement. Other images linger on the Cordonata, the famous staircase designed by Michelangelo.

The Campidoglio is also the set for the fourth season of #SkamItalia. Illuminated by the dim candlelight of a procession, we recognize the steep walls of the Tarpeian Rock.
