
The funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday 26 April. The celebration is scheduled at 10 a.m. in the parvis of St. Peter's Basilica.
From Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 April, it will be possible to pay one last respects to the Holy Father. The Basilica will be open Wednesday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Thursday from 7 a.m. to midnight and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Rome is preparing to welcome the many faithful who will arrive to pay their last respects to the Pope who passed away on Monday 21 April. For the occasion, transport and traffic measures are already activated.
National mourning and variation of events
All Roma Capitale public events scheduled for these days have been cancelled, including the inauguration of the new study rooms at the Museo Canonica and the Rome Casa del Cinema scheduled for Wednesday 23 April.
The Council of Ministers has proclaimed five days of national mourning.
The weekend's Jubilee events, in particular the first Jubilee of Teenagers (25-27 April), remain confirmed. The musical celebration at the Circus Maximus planned for Saturday 26 April has been cancelled.
The canonisation of Blessed Carlo Acutis, scheduled for Sunday 27 April, has been suspended.
Saturday 26 April 2025 the Vatican Museums and the Castel Gandolfo Museum Complex will be closed, as a sign of mourning, for the funeral of the Roman Pontiff Francis.
The Sistine Chapel will be closed to the public from Monday 28 April 2025 for the requirements of the Conclave.
All tours of the Vatican Gardens and the Necropolis of the Via Triumphalis are also suspended.
Due to the funeral of the Holy Father, Sant'Angelo Castle will be closed to the public on Saturday 26 April 2025.
