The Palatine Stadium in the Colosseum Archaeological Park lights up for three evenings - 3, 5 and 6 August - hosting Philosophies under the stars 2024, a special event promoted by Roma Capitale. The event, which is part of the Roman Summer 2024, is organized as part of the XXV World Congress of Philosophy – Rome 2024 organized by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP), the Italian Philosophical Society (SFI) and the Sapienza University of Rome and hosted in the university city of Sapienza University of Rome.

Free and open to all, the event, not only for congress attendees but also for citizens and tourists, aims to broaden this year's congressional debate as much as possible - centered on the theme Philosophy crosses borders - attributing a public dimension to intellectual reflection and critical thinking. For three evenings, in fact, we cross the borders of the University City to reach the Palatine Stadium, a now usual setting also for the important International Literature Festival of Rome event of which Philosophies under the stars is the ideal continuation dedicated to the humanistic sciences.

During the three evenings three different thematic tracks are presented: on the opening evening titled Inspiration, is with the presence of the special guest of the first evening, Joyce Carol Oates of Princeton University, American writer, as well as poet, playwright and university professor who opens the event with an unpublished text of hers, a conversation with Fabrizia Giuliani, and author of numerous essays on the topic of communication, the relationship between language, ethics and politics and on gender studies, at Sapienza University of Rome, professor of Philosophy of Language at Sapienza University From Rome; the evening will end with a moment of discussion with the public.

The second appointment is entitled Beyond Nature and opens with the participation of Yuk Hui, professor of philosophy at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and among the founders of the Research Network for Philosophy and Technology, considered one of the most important theorists of digital technology, given through the rereading of traditional Chinese thought and Asian philosophers. Next comes Nathalie Tocci, political scientist, columnist, director of the IAI-Istituto Affari Internazionali and non-executive and independent director of ACEA, whose scientific interests range from European integration and foreign policy to issues related to the Middle East and Europe Eastern Europe, passing through transatlantic relations, multilateralism, conflict resolution, up to issues related to energy and climate.

The third and final event, entitled Minds, sees the participation of David Chalmers, professor of philosophy and neural sciences at New York University and co-director of the Centre for Mind, Brain, and Consciousness at the same university, who brings his experience in the fields of philosophy of mind, cognitive science, philosophy of language, metaphysics and epistemology. Together with him Maximo Ibarra, CEO Engineering Informatica SpA, as well as professor of Marketing and Digital Marketing at the Guido Carli Luiss University & Business School of Rome whose fields of interest focus on new technologies, artificial intelligence and on extended reality.

In all three evenings the scholarly debates will be accompanied by musical interludes by Archivio Futuro, Teho Teardo and the duo composed of Rodrigo D'Erasmo and Roberto Angelini.

The event is promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital - with the coordination of the Cultural Activities Department - carried out in collaboration with the Library Institution of Rome Capital and with the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum. Organization of Zètema Progetto Cultura. Artistic coordination by Fabrizio Arcuri. Partners: Acea and Eng.
