San Nicola de Portiis

Descrizione: SAN NICOLA DE PORTIIS The name probably derives from the Porzi family that owned many buildings in the area during the medieval epoch. The first data arrive at the end of C. XII while the inclusion by the church of San Bonaventura definitely took place in obedience to Gregorio XIII’s will in 1575. It underwent numerous restoration works starting from 1650 and later on in1736 and 1859-63. Since the end of C.XIX it was managed by the Santa Maria Riparatrice nuns. The exterior is still visible and characterized by a frame with stone corbels closed between two rows of serrated bricks. The interior of the lower church, embodying two naves of different height and divided by four rounded arches, can be reached via a trap door located in the upper church, which is then accessible via the sacrestia. On the lower nave one may still admire remainings of paintings from the C. XIII-XIV. Collegamenti: Bus 63
