Ponte Testaccio

The Testaccio bridge connects the Testaccio riverfront to the Portuense district with a single reinforced concrete arch.
It was the first bridge to be inaugurated after the war even though the need for its construction had already been highlighted during the Fascist era; at that time the idea was to erect a bridge to be named Africa that would connect the Trastevere station to the Mattatoio and the Aventine. The design of the project was entrusted to engineer Bastianelli in 1937, but, as happened for other works of that period, work was interrupted during the war and only resumed in 1947, entrusting the task of its construction to Professor Krall. Its measurements are 121.91 metres by 31.3 metres.
