Ponte del Risorgimento

Ponte del Risorgimento is a bridge connecting Piazzale delle Belle Arti with Piazza Monte Grappa in Rome's Flaminio and Della Vittoria districts.

The bridge was commissioned on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Unification of Italy in 1909. Its construction technique, based on the Hennebique method, allowed for the daring construction, for that time, of a single arch over 100 metres long and 20 metres wide. In 1911, after several accidents, which unfortunately disrupted its construction, the bridge was finally crossed by the royal procession for the inauguration of the International Art Exhibition. Near the bridge, towards the end of the 19th century, there was a beach, with the Polverini huts, famous for its tranquillity and splendid view. The beach was also used during the fascist era as a model colony, where about 160 pupils were accommodated.
