Piazza Borghese is one of the squares in the historic centre of Rome, in the Campo Marzio district.
Located between Via di Ripetta and Via Fontanella Borghese, on an area that belonged to the Borghese family for centuries, the square is bordered to the northeast by the Borghese Palace, to the northwest by the Faculty of Architecture building, and to the southwest by the palace known as "della Famiglia".
The Borghese family's settlement in the area dates back to the 16th century. The expansion in the area between Via di Ripetta and the church of San Girolamo degli Schiavoni is due to Paul V (1605-1621) and Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Until the 19th century, the square was in fact a private space belonging to the Borghese family palace.
Originally it directly overlooked Via di Ripetta, but between 1923 and 1928 it was closed on that side with the construction of what is currently one of the seats of the Faculty of Architecture of Sapienza.
