The military complex was built between 1882 and 1886 to defend the Via Trionfale and the Valle dell'Inferno. Umberto Nobile's airship left from the hangar inside the complex for the North Pole. It currently houses the Arnaldo Ulivelli Barracks, used by the Third Transmission Regiment.
