Fontana del Nettuno di Piazza del Popolo

Fontana del Nettuno ph Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali

The fountain of Nettuno (Neptune) is placed in the Western hemicycle of Piazza del Popolo on the side towards the Tiber river. It consists of a circular travertine pond that supports a large Tiburtin shell, above which a small cup collects the water that pours from the wall.

The fountain is crowned by a group designed by Valadier and sculpted by Giovanni Ceccarini (1822-1824), representing Neptune with two tritons leaning on dauphins at his feet.
