Worshippers of a Timeless Ritual
Emilia Fincato opened this historic shop in 1932. Loose cigarettes, Toscano cigars, and straight-cut tobacco were sold on the ground floor, while her husband, Carmelo, sewed in his tailor’s shop on the upper floor.
In the 1960s, their nephews Fausto Fincato and Bruno Baggio took over the business, over the years transforming it into what can only be described as a meeting house for slow smoking. In 1971, they turned the first floor into a lounge, which was frequented by important people like Italian President Pertini, King Farouq, Luciano Lama, Arnoldo Foa, Luca De Filippo, to name but a few, who would meet there because of its intimate and discreet atmosphere, typical of this kind of habit.
Fausto Fincato says that “with a pipe you are never alone.” He guides you through the showcases of vintage pipes, cigar and cigarette lighters, and other objects related to tobacco, and tells you all about his museum of unique specimens which capture the attention of enthusiasts. Pipes of every shape and size, which have mellowed the atmosphere of political meetings, sealed pacts, or been smoked to celebrate the conclusion of marriage rites.
In 1975, Fausto created the magazine "Smoking" and later the Circolo della Pipa, and his passion made the shop a not-to-miss destination for enthusiasts. Alongside tobacco there is now Bacco, which offers distillates, spirits, and a selection of rare, fine wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, and other areas. Since the 1990s, Fausto’s son, Emiliano, has also been helping him run the business.
In 2001, they decided to broaden their horizons to the world of cigars, and they opened “La Casa del Habano”. They built a humidor room on the upper floor, which thanks to advanced technology, maintains the ideal temperature and humidity level for storing cigars and preserving all their characteristics. This has made Fincato the official point of sale for Habano S.A., guaranteeing customers the satisfaction of finding something for every taste and preference. Traditions, rituals, and ceremonies dictated by passion. Could there be a more successful propeller?
