The Direction of the National Museums of the City of Rome is a local branch of the General Direction for Museums and it guarantees on the territory of its competence "the performance of the public service of fruition and valorisation of the institutes and places of culture entrusted to the State or to the State in any case entrusted in management, including those belonging to the institutes mentioned in art. 33, paragraph 2, letter a, and paragraph 3".
The following institutes and places of culture belong to the Direction:

- Basilica di San Cesareo de Appia
- Galleria Spada
- Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi per le Arti Decorative , il Costume e la Moda of the 19th and 20th Centuries
- Museo Hendrik Christian Andersen
- Museo Mario Praz
- Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo
- Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti Musicali
- Pantheon
