Chiesa Santa Maria Regina Pacis

In 1925, work began on the construction of a Romanesque-style church, of which only the crypt was built, inaugurated on 6 December 1931.

The present church, designed by architect Tullio Rossi and built from 1940 onwards, was consecrated on 11 April 1942. The façade, preceded by a portico enclosed by iron gates recovered from the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie at Porta Angelica, demolished in 1939, is made of exposed brick; it bears the dedicatory inscription in Latin: Mariae Immaculatae Reginae Pacis A.D. MCMXLII; the façade is flanked by a tall bell tower.

Inside, the church has three naves, separated by high arched pillars. It is dominated by the large mosaic in the apse, depicting The Virgin seated on a throne with Child and Saints, by Odoardo Anselmi. The two side naves end with works by Cleto Luzzi from 1944: they depict The Transfiguration and a St Joseph with Child. On the walls of the nave, under the large polychrome glass windows, there are frescoes depicting Gospel episodes in which Mary appears.

The church is the seat of the parish of the same name, established by Pius XI on 25 March 1932 with the Apostolic Constitution Iam pridem, it is entrusted to the Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception. The church is linked to the cardinal title of Santa Maria Regina Pacis in Monte Verde, instituted by Paul VI on 30 April 1969.
