The Parish of St Ambrose was founded on 10 July 1961 by a decree Sanctissimus dominus noster issued by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara and was entrusted to the Diocesan Clergy of Rome.Inaugurated on 14 September 1961, the newborn parish was located in the premises of a garage at Via Baldo degli Ubaldi 114, where it remained until 13 May 1973 when it was moved to the present parish church in Via Girolamo Vitelli.The foundation stone was laid on 10 March 1968 in the presence of Cardinal Vicar Angelo Dell'Acqua.Engineer Franco Rebecchini designed and supervised the construction of the building. The frescoes, which can be admired inside the church and which recount the life of St Ambrose, were created by the Roman painter Igino Cupelloni.Fr Angelo Malatesta was the first Parish Priest of St Ambrose, succeeded by Fr Luigi Retrosi, who was Parish Priest from 19 June 1994 to 5 March 2014, the day of his birth in heaven.
