Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Sette Dolori

The church was started in 1643 on the initiative of Camilla Virginia Savelli Farnese and left unfinished until 1646; it was completed by other architects with variations on the initial design. The plan, a rounded and undulating square, is based on the planimetric solution of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, while the unfinished façade incorporates modules already seen in Sant'Agnese and the Oratorio dei Filippini. The use of exposed brick, taken from direct experience of Roman monuments, allusively expresses the simplicity and austerity of the cloistered monastic order of oblates in the monastery attached to it.
