The parish was erected on August 30, 1956, by the decree of Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara Neminem fugit and entrusted to the diocesan clergy of Rome and, since 1958, to the priests of the Society of Divine Vocations (Vocationists).
From the beginning of the parish's erection, Holy Mass and sacraments have been celebrated at the chapel of the General Curia of the Vocationists. As the population of the area increased, the need was felt to build a parish church, which was completed in 1986. Pope John Paul II visited the parish in 1988.The Church of St. Gabriel the Archangel was built to the design of architect Eugenio Abruzzini when Fr. Salvatore De Fusco was pastor.
The design included a bare glorious cross between the two columns behind the altar. The design of the cross, composed of lines of different lengths, was intended to recall the image of the brightness of the cross. The next parish priest Don Oreste Anella wanted to complete the cross with the image of Christ. The work was entrusted to sculptor Ernesto Lamagna and represents Christ who, starting from the cross, is projected toward the glory of the resurrection. So the work, as it appears now, is not a real crucifix, but is like a synthesis of Christ's passage from death to Resurrection. the same sculptor is the author of the angels in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Republic Square. A Christ with an attitude similar to the sculpture in the Paul Sixth Hall.
