Chiesa di Nostra Signora del SS. Sacramento e dei Santi Martiri Canadesi

The church originated in 1948 from the decision of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament to build a new building as the seat of its General Curia in Rome on the land purchased in Via Giovanni Battista de Rossi. The vicariate of Rome set as a condition for approval of the project the construction, within the new complex of the Religious of the Blessed Sacrament, of a church open to the public erected as a parish, to meet the pastoral needs of the surrounding area. An initial project submitted was rejected, because it was considered unsuitable for pastoral needs and not in line with the location and environment in which the church was to be built. In March 1950, architect Bruno Maria Apollonj Ghetti presented a project that was approved by the Council of Antiquities and Fine Arts. The construction work began immediately afterwards and was completed in 1955. On 14 June of that year, the church was inaugurated, and erected as a parish church on the following 19 October with the decree of the Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara Nominem quidam and entrusted to the Congregation of the Priests of the Blessed Sacrament. In the meantime, to the original title of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, that of the 17th century Canadian Martyred Saints was added, to make it the national church of Canada. Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger solemnly consecrated it on 1 November 1962. It is the seat of the cardinal's title of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and the Holy Canadian Martyrs.
