Biblioteca di Archeologia e Storia dell'Arte - BIASA (Sala Crociera - sede distaccata)

As from 1989, the BiASA has a separate branch in the Palazzo del Collegio Romano. The palace was built between 1581 and 1584 as the headquarters of the Compagnia di Gesù in Rome, at the suggestion of Pope Gregory XIII (1572-1585) Boncompagni and designed by the Jesuit architect Giuseppe Valeriani (1526-1596). Following the transfer of the capital into Rome in 1870, the building was chosen to host the Biblioteca Nazionale, the Biblioteca Nazionale, created and built by Ruggero Bonghi (1826-1895) during his brief period as Ministro della Educazione, from 1874 to 1876. At present, the building is divided between the Ministero della Cultura, the Liceo Ginnasio 'Ennio Quirino Visconti' and the Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio. Within the building of the Ministry, BiASA has assigned the Crociera and the Sala della Lettura.
The Crociera is part of the original late 16th century building, as demonstrated among other things by the inscriptions of Pope Gregory XIII at the entrance and on the vaults. This was originally the site of the Biblioteca Major, the library of the Studio del Collegio Romano, founded by Sant'Ignazio di Loyola on the model of the Università di Parigi.
The Sala della Lettura was built in the 1870s and was designed by the engineer Francesco Bongioannini (1847-1928), based on a 16th century drawing by Jacopo Barozzi, known as Vignola (1507-1573).
In these two rooms, BiASA has allocated the Sezione numerica, containing a large part of its collection, and the book collections resulting from contributions and donations. The collections include the Fondo Alfredo Castellani, the Fondo Alfredo Dusmet, the Fondo Pagliara, the Fondo Ruffo and the Fondo Attilio Rossi.

Heritage: 12,000 volumes, 300 periodicals, 2 CD-ROMs.

Subjects: Fine Arts, Law, Public Administration, Library Science and Archives.
