Hosted in the enchanting hanging Park of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, a promenade full of Mediterranean vegetation and an organic urban vegetable plot, the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio is held every year to promote the preservation and protection of the landscape, the dissemination of the culture of greenery, biodiversity and environmental education, especially in city areas.
Now in its 13th edition, the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio, the largest exhibition and cultural event in Italy dedicated to green in the city, involves Italy's best producers and, with the launch of the Slowplants movement, wishes to inspire consumers to embrace seasonal, local and sustainable plants and flowers, craftsmen and companies to treat materials and production processes in an ecological and sustainable manner and to support biodiversity. In a nutshell, it invites to the 'slow movement', stimulating a constructive and dynamic debate on the importance of a more ethical nursery industry that emphasises respectfully cultivated seasonal plants.
The Festival also celebrates outdoor life because the relationship with nature should not be an ephemeral trend, but a necessity, especially for those living in a metropolis. The question, today, is no longer about the fashionable plants or what design furniture should be in our outdoor space, but what aspects of life we should focus on and invest in.
The question we have to ask ourselves is therefore: can the garden - the ideal terrain in which to experience visions of the future - and gardening - an act of love and care for an entire ecosystem - save the world? And if so, how?
The Festival thus resumes the reflection begun in past years and calls for a response from institutions, town planners, architects, landscape architects, associations, young environmentalists, garden designers, craftsmen, nurserymen, companies, gardeners on major issues - climate change, biodiversity, urban forestation - and on concrete solutions for sustainable living, with the ever-increasing awareness that environmental protection can no longer be an after-work hobby.
