Rome prepares to welcome the European leg of the prestigious European Junior Championships of the Raffa specialty, hosted at the Federal Technical Center of Torrino.
The international sporting event is organized by the European Confederation of Raffa with the collaboration of the Italian Bowls Federation (FIB). The FIB is recognized by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) for sports activity of athletes without a disability and by the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) for athletes with a disability.
Raffa is the most practiced bowls specialty in Italy, consisting of point play: bringing one's bowl as close as possible to the cue ball and in the raffa-or-flight mode, or hitting another bowl with one's or the cue ball declaring the target.
Catalina is the nice symbol of the event and the first identifying mascot of a European bowls event: an armadillo with a shell of bony plates that protects it from predators and allows it to transform itself, rolling up into a ball, reaching surprising similarities with the structure of the game instrument, bowls.
