San Gallicano

The church annexed to the hospital is dedicated to Santa Maria and San Gallicano. It was built after a project by the architect Filippo Raguzzini from Campania, author of the San Gallicano hospital, and represents the model for the hospital architecture of the time (mid-eighteenth-century). The longitudinal development is livened up in the middle by the church’s volume that, with elegant and measured objects, is divided up by pilaster strips on a high basement. Inside the church is the portrait of the devoted saint on the altar, by Filippo Evangelisti. The hospital substituted the antique one of San Lazzaro. Both buildings had been consecrated on the 6th of October 1726 by Pope Benedetto XIII. Notes: Visible upon request only (plase call no. 0039-06.585431).
