Matèria, based in Rome's San Lorenzo district, was founded in 2015 on the initiative of Niccolò Fano.
The gallery's mission is to promote and disseminate all expressions related to contemporary artistic research, placing particular emphasis on the photographic medium. Committed from the outset to enhancing the work of the artists featured, Matèria represents the work of Fabio Barile, Giulia Marchi, Mario Cresci, Xiaoyi Chen, Giuseppe De Mattia, Marta Mancini and Stefano Canto.
The gallery's activity is developed with four exhibitions a year, held directly with its artists and often designed specifically for the space in a site-specific key. The exhibition programme, aimed at encouraging experimentation and research, is flanked by an increasing number of national and international exhibitions.
From 13 February 2021 the gallery's new headquarters will be in Via dei Latini 27, San Lorenzo (RM), a larger space in which all the parallel projects that Matèria has promoted and supported over the years will also come to life and which aims to be a dynamic space for cultural promotion.
