It is not only the most prestigious golf competition but also the third most important and most followed international sporting event after the Olympic Games and the Football World Cup: with the 44th Ryder Cup, history, tradition, and charm will be on show in Rome, at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, from 25 September to 1 October 2023.
It will be the first edition in Italy: a historical success achieved thanks to the infrastructural and commercial solidity and the support of the Government, as well as the private sector.
What makes it a unique event? Founded way back in 1927, the Ryder Cup is the only sporting event in which the Old Continent competes as a team: it is played in even-numbered years, alternately in a European or American town, between two teams composed of the 12 strongest European and US golfers. The tournament does not have a money prize pool: the prize is the cup and the honor of winning. On the schedule are one four-match session of fourball and one four-match of foursomes on the first two days, and 12 single on the last one for 28 total matches.
With its 150 hectares of land 17 km from the center of Rome and its 27 spectacular holes around the castle of Marco Simone, whose first structures date back to the year 1000, the Roman Golf Club is getting ready to welcome the 50,000 spectators expected each day.
With the enhancement and renovation works, the course will become a sporting destination capable of attracting more and more players and fans of an ever-expanding sport, leaving a precious legacy to the next generation of golfers.
During the days of the event, it is possible to access the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club exclusively via a free shuttle from the Park & Ride car parks (not reachable on foot), located at the La Rustica UIR railway station (arriving from Southern Rome), via Bonagiunta Orbicciani da Lucca (from Northern Rome) and Guidonia airport (arriving from outside Rome), and Tran & Ride, located at the Ponte Mammolo Line B metro station and La Rustica UIR railway station (Train Line FL2). First Tee Experience ticket holders for the morning session on Friday or Saturday are advised to take the first shuttle from the Ponte Mammolo metro station (TR1) or one of the Park & Ride car parks.
Dedicated Park & Rides (rydercupticketing@europeantourgroup.com), shuttles from Ponte Mammolo with facilitated access and an on-site parking space are provided for spectators with reduced mobility or with special accessibility requirements, as well as an ad hoc service and the possibility to rent electric scooters and wheelchairs (info on https://www.eventmobility.org.uk/ryder-cup).
At security checks, it is mandatory to show an original identity document or passport and provide your details, indicating the date of birth and nationality, as required by Italian law, before accessing the playing field. The tickets are nominative and subject to control with an identity document to verify the data entered.
The Capitoline Council, exclusively on the occasion of the Ryder Cup, also approved the special and temporary tariffs in order to guarantee an efficient mobility strategy through the taxi service, ensuring users maximum transparency and operators the sustainability of the service, considering that the competition takes place in a decentralized area involving high traffic intensity arteries. The rates are as follows: € 75.00 for the route to and from the Aurelian Walls/Marco Simone Country Golf and Country Club; taximeter fare with a guaranteed minimum amount of € 35,00 for trips with user collection outside the Aurelian Walls and to Marco Simone Golf and Country Club and for trips with user collection from the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club with destination outside the Aurelian Walls.
