The new Atlas of Rome: the city’s future digital twin

from 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2026

Another step towards an increasingly smart city. Developed starting from the Atlante del Patrimonio project launched three years ago, the new Atlante di Roma Capitale is a digital tool with an open architecture that brings together data, information and services covering the entire Rome metropolitan area.

Thanks to high-definition mapping (with a resolution of between 5 and 7.5 centimeters per pixel – the highest level of precision achievable) and the use of complex 3D models and BIM navigation, the new technological platform aims to improve understanding of the urban area, making city management more efficient and increasing administrative transparency.

To date, the platform already contains information on over 60 per cent of Rome’s heritage, which can be searched by category, address, state of preservation and area. Three major archives have already been integrated into the platform: the Atlante del Patrimonio (Heritage Atlas), the 3D Schools Atlas and, for internal use only, the Underground Services Atlas. The digitization process is expected to be completed by 2027.
