Promoted by the Department of Culture and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, the free exhibition in the Sala fontana of Palazzo Esposizioni is dedicated to the drawings and illustrations created by Filippo Sassòli over his 30-year career, from 1990 to the present day.
Born in Rome in 1961, Filippo Sassòli collaborates with various publishing houses and works for daily and periodical press. He is particularly known for his landscape drawings, portraiture and children’s book illustrations. The exhibition features 52 mixed media drawings and a selection of 22 reproductions of illustrations published in L’Osservatore Romano, as well as 35 reproductions of Christmas cards.
The exhibition is divided into three sections that illustrate nature’s resilience beyond human presence. In Archigrafie romane - Roman archigraphies, remains of Roman buildings and modern architecture coexist as remnants of time. Zoografie marine - Marine zoographies depict unexpected encounters with fish, octopuses, shells, all apparitions that burst into the urban fabric like “infiltrations”. Chiusini romani - Roman manhole covers draw attention to details that are often overlooked: thresholds, diaphragms, doors and openings that can enclose, imprison and hide but also preserve and defend.
