Chiesa di Santa Maria dell'Addolorata

It was built between 1998 and 2001 based on a design by architect Tommaso Sbardella and was consecrated on March 17, 2001 by Cardinal Camillo Ruini. The church is a parish church, established by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara on January 14, 1958 with the decree Quartum iam annum, and entrusted first to the missionaries Servants of the Poor and then, since 1987, to the clergy of the diocese of Rome. Since February 14, 2015, the cardinal title of the same name has been attached to it. The building has a composite structure on the outside, in blocks of tuff that blend with travertine, with a roof made of wood and copper; the façade is preceded by a staircase, which leads to the three entrance portals, above which is placed a cross. The church is flanked by a bell tower, with an internal staircase, visible from the outside, which leads to the cell where five bells are placed: one of these is dedicated to road victims. Inside, the church has a single nave with a square plan: the presbytery and the entrance are located in two opposite vertices. On a raised floor is the presbytery, where the main altar is located: behind it is a wooden crucifix and stained glass windows made by Mara Alessandri. On the counter-façade are the pipes of the Organaria Romana opus III organ, built in 2001, controlled by an electronic console located on the floor; it has 524 pipes for a total of 9 registers, of which 5 are real.
