Palazzo Verospi

Palazzo Verospi Vitelleschi, adjacent to the Bonaparte palace and separated from the Doria Pamphilj palace by Vicolo Doria, is an 1887 reconstruction by the architect Luigi Tedeschi of a palace built in 1580 by the Vitelleschi family, which then passed to the Tassi family and finally to the Verospi family.

The family had many leaders who were always in the service of the Pope and therefore the family moved to Rome. The Vitelleschis were registered among the Roman patricians around 1560 and in those years they began the construction of the palace on Via del Corso.
In 1660 the palace belonged to the Marquis Antonio Tassi who had married Sulpizia Vitelleschi. In 1665 Bellori in his Nota delli Musei recalls that in the palace some ancient works had been collected by Ippolito Vitelleschi including an alabaster Minerva restored with metal head and hands by Francesco Fiammingo (now in Villa Albani).
In 1774 the palace was inherited by the Verospi family, Spanish merchants registered among the patricians in 1746 (the family died out in 1775 with the Marquis Girolamo who died without male children and with his daughter Virginia who married a member of the noble Genoese Gavotti family).

The palace, which was rebuilt in 1887 by the architect Luigi Tedeschi, is spread over four floors with nine windows each with architraves and a triangular tympanum on the first. On the ground floor there is an architraved portal flanked by arched doors for a shop, surmounted by a balcony that groups together three central windows on the main floor.
