The Parish of St. John of the Cross was juridically erected on 1 July 1989, in the district of Colle Salario (northern outskirts of Rome), which in those years was experiencing considerable building development and still has a high population density (currently, there are about 20,000 inhabitants in the parish area). It was dedicated to the Spanish Carmelite Saint, John of the Cross (1542-1591), a great mystic and distinguished Doctor of the Church, with a profound and intense spirituality. The Church, consecrated on 6 October 2001, consists of a square liturgical hall, with a central plan, very large and bright, simple but evocative, covered with face brick, with polychrome stained-glass windows and a ceiling of laminated wood beams: the whole creates an intimate and warm atmosphere that favours recollection and prayer.S. John of the Cross is a lively and active parish, open and welcoming, that wishes to offer a familiar and serene environment, in which to pray, celebrate the Sacraments, meet and forge relationships of friendship and fraternity, in the spirit of unity and sharing taught by the Lord Jesus. The characteristic of our Parish, in fact, is precisely that of being a Community in which different charisms and spiritualities are present, seeking to live in communion with each other: the Focolare Movement (Work of Mary), the Neocatechumenal Way, the Mary Community of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, a Marian Prayer Group (S.A.C.R.I.), the Community of Sant'Egidio and Caritas. Many initiatives are proposed, mainly concerning Christian formation, to grow in the experience of that mystery of truth and love that is God: catechesis meetings and reflection on Sacred ure, to deepen and strengthen faith; preparation courses for the sacraments of Baptism, Communion, Confirmation (for adolescents and adults), and Marriage; formative itineraries for children after Confirmation; a parish choir for the musical animation of liturgical celebrations.
