With spring, the Japanese Market of Rome returns with the Japan Days, one of the most loved and anticipated events, a real festival with free admission, to introduce everyone to Japanese culture and its many facets in a unique context such as the historic Capannelle Hippodrome.
The festival, which takes place on the weekend of March 15 and 16, includes a Market Area with over one hundred exhibitors and a selection that ranges from the classic kimono and bonsai, to the colorful pop and hype of nerd and kawaii culture. And also, unique shows, creative workshops, talks with prominent personalities and ambassadors of Japanese culture in Italy, along with the best Japanese street food. A unique event where you can find the folklore of classic Japan and the most contemporary aspect of the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Martial Arts Area offers those present performances of kendo, judo, kumiken and a show inspired by the historic manga The Tiger Man by the La Vera Tana Delle Tigri gym. The Experience Area is dedicated to tea tastings; there is also the Sake Class, an area where you can taste sake. Among the showcases, Davide Leonardi, international Kendama champion, performs live to illustrate the ancient Japanese game to visitors, while Funkamore and Smine, two street artists from the HawanaFamily/2P2M collective, create live works with a manga/ukiyo-e theme.
Among the workshops, we highlight the course on calligraphy, the one on Japanese bookbinding and on kintsugi, or the art of repairing ceramics with gold. In addition, the yakitori show cooking by sushi chef Micaela Giambanco (Mikachan) guides us to the discovery of a true Japanese delicacy, while the live cooking on onigiri, also held by Mikachan, illustrates the magical world of Miyazaki to those present.
Finally, in the Talk Area, don't miss the cinematographic focuses and the special event on the film Dragon Ball Z as well as a series of conferences on disparate topics, such as the evolution of Pokémon, the background on Candy Candy, the adventures of Lady Oscar, various manga previews, and more.
