Running in Rome is running through history amidst spectacular views and masterpieces of art and architecture: awarded as the best Italian sports event at the Bea Awards 2024, Sunday 16 March sees the start of Run Rome The Marathon, the historic Rome marathon that this year celebrates its 30th edition.
The marathon is organized by Infront Italy SpA together with Corriere dello Sport Srl, Atielle Roma Srl and Italia Marathon Club, with the approval of FIDAL and the international federation (World Athletics). As per tradition, the 42.195-kilometer route winds its way (in all weather conditions) past iconic and unique sites and monuments. These include, for example, the Imperial Fora and the Colosseum (where the start and finish lines are set), the Arch of Constantine, the Circus Maximus, Porta San Paolo, the Pyramid, St Paul’s Basilica, St Peter’s Basilica, the Foro Italico complex, Piazza Augusto Imperatore and the Ara Pacis, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona, the steps of Santa Maria in Aracoeli and the Capitol, the Theater of Marcellus and the Mouth of Truth. However, you can also conquer Rome by walking: participation is open to all Fitwalking enthusiasts, guided by specific pacers in the appropriate gaits, from a relatively relaxed pace up to a high-performance one.
Running is also a team sport with the Run4Rome relay, a day open to beginners, walkers, runners and sportsmen and women in general. All you have to do is create your own team of four people, each one running one of the foreseen legs (one of these also accessible to participants aged 16 and over) for a total of 42.195 km. Fun, friendship, well-being and team spirit are not the only keywords of Run4Rome, however: the relay race in fact supports the work of the non-profit organizations (NPOs) that have joined the Charity Program, by donating part of the registration fee to one of the many ethical, social and concrete projects or by making a donation directly to one of the charities.
Saturday 15 March sees the return of the cross-city race Fun Run, starting and finishing inside the Circus Maximus: 5 km of celebration, happiness and well-being to be tackled by running or walking at a leisurely pace to experience the city on a spring Saturday together with one’s family, children and friends. Combined with the Fun Run is the “six-legged” Stracanina race, dedicated to dogs of all sizes and breeds: each four-legged friend will receive a participation bib and a great surprise in the arrival area at the Circus Maximus. The cross-city race also believes in solidarity: thanks to the commitment and collaboration of CSV Lazio ETS (Centro di Servizio per il Volontariato - Volunteer Service Centre) it is in fact possible to register for the event by supporting the activities of one of the volunteer organizations participating in the Charity Program.
For all registered participants but also for all fans of sport, running and wellness, from Thursday 13 March to Saturday 15 March the Expo Village will open at the Palazzo dei Congressi in EUR. This is the “home” of Run Rome The Marathon where to meet on the eve of the big event, get to know the elite runners (the great champions at the start) and find out more about the dynamics and the mission of the Charity Program connected to the marathon, relay and Fun Run.
Download the new Run Rome The Marathon App on your iOS or Android device to enjoy a unique experience both before, during and after the marathon, with live tracking, rankings, “selfie specials” and much more.
