Ponte Lupo, the water giant – IV Ancient Roman Agro Festival – FAI Delegation of Rome

The Ponte Lupo Association and the FAI - Delegation of Rome - present the Ancient Roman Agro Festival, a project dedicated to culture and raising awareness of the importance of these places. The Festival, now in its fourth edition, is promoted by Roma Capitale - Department of Culture, winner of the "Estate Romana 2023 - 2024" Public Notice, curated by the Cultural Activities Department and created in collaboration with SIAE.

The event includes the possibility of taking part, starting in the late afternoon, in a guided tour by FAI volunteers to discover the most famous of the "Giants of Water": Ponte Lupo. The latter, in fact, is an exceptional example of hydraulic engineering dating back to the 2nd century. B.C. built in Roman times to allow the Aqua Marcia to cross the Red Water Ditch: the Bridge represents the most impressive stretch of the Aqua Marcia aqueduct, the longest in ancient Rome - approximately 91 km - built by Quinto Marcio Re between 144 and 140 BC.and immersed in the Roman countryside, in an unaltered environmental context, within the San Giovanni in Campo Orazio estate, owned since 1600 by the Bailiwick of San Sebastiano of the Barberini family. The visit, which lasts about an hour, concerns the construction and architectural aspects of this magnificent bridge, without forgetting the history of the aqueducts and the surrounding archaeological and environmental context, the subject of reclamation, valorization and protection actions by the property.

Cultural meetings and conversations with artists and writers, book presentations, musical performances and readings with the participation of Italian and foreign artists, inclusive walks and trekking, taste workshops and workshops for children and families are also planned.

The artistic direction of the Festival is by Urbano Barberini, for the executive production of the cultural association Music Theater International – M.Th.I. ETS in partnership with the Ponte Lupo ETS association and the FAI.
