Sapienza University ranks first worldwide in Classical Studies

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, the university ranking published by QS - Quacquarelli Symonds analysts that examines around 5,000 institutions, confirmed Sapienza’s world leadership in Classics and Ancient History for the fourth consecutive year, with a score of 99.5, higher than last year.

The 2024 ranking analyzed 55 subjects grouped into 5 macro-areas, taking into consideration factors such as academic reputation, citations per paper and the use of the H-Index for publication frequency and impact. Sapienza is the Italian university most represented in the ranking with 47 subjects, up from last year’s 43 subjects and distributed across all five areas, for a total of 52 points. The Roman university ranks among the world’s top 50 universities in 8 disciplines and among the world’s top 100 in 25 disciplines (compared with 21 last year). The 8 top 50 subjects are: Classics & Ancient History; Archaeology; History of Art; Physics & Astronomy; Library & Information Management; History; Law; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Other Italian records include Psychology; Natural Sciences - Macro-area; Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies; Statistics & Operational Research; Nursing; Development Studies; Dentistry; Anthropology; Anatomy & Physiology. By analyzing the 5 macro-areas, in addition to its leadership in “Arts & Humanities” and “Natural Sciences”, Sapienza also improved its ranking in “Life Sciences & Medicine”, which rose from 137th to 128th position, and in the “Engineering & Technology” area, this year ranked 95th worldwide.
