A new route dedicated to sustainable mobility connects Leonardo da Vinci Airport and the city of Fiumicino through Pedalaria, the new cycle path part of the ‘DPCM Giubileo 2025’ project, entirely financed by Aeroporti di Roma.
Born thanks to the cooperation with the Fiumicino municipal administration, the 3.5 km route for pedestrians and cyclists starts from the airport and joins the pre-existing cycle path in Viale del Lago di Traiano, improving the mobility of passengers and workers through a a pleasant, safe and eco-friendly connection, offering, at the same time, the extraordinary opportunity to admire enchanting natural landscapes and remarkable archaeological areas, including the Ports of Claudius and Trajan.
The structure adds to the many initiatives in terms of sustainability of Europe's best airport through the use of draining materials, such as ‘Idrodrain’ cement and recyclable wood mixtures, as well as water management systems - drainage canals and ‘Rain garden’ - and the presence of Mediterranean plants, respecting their life cycle, from five continents arranged along the final stretch to Terminal 3.
