The project for the construction of the Ostia Sea Park was presented at the Marine Engineering department of Roma Tre University in Ostia. The project was developed by ABACUS Srl, the lead firm of the temporary consortium that won the design tender launched by Risorse per Roma.
The project aims to regenerate the Ostia coastline, transforming it into an integrated, eco-friendly, accessible, and modern landscape infrastructure. It includes the redevelopment of the Lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi, Toscanelli, and Piazza dei Ravennati; the creation of a new Dune Park, a nature and recreational area; the construction of a new vehicle bridge over the Canale dei Pescatori (which Risorse per Roma is planning); road network improvements and upgrades to connections with the stations; and the creation of new parking lots.
Specifically, the redevelopment of a long stretch of the seafront road, approximately 7.4 km, is planned. The new Dune Park (which will run from Piazzale Magellano to Piazza Cristoforo Colombo) will be created through the reconstruction of the sea dune, extending to existing green areas as well. This will allow the reclamation of new natural open spaces for public use, entirely pedestrian and cyclist-friendly and directly adjacent to the beach. Thanks to this project, the asphalt will be reduced by 55%, with over 150,000 square meters of depaved areas, the green areas and dunes will be increased by 150%, and the coastal ecosystem will be enhanced with over 2,000 new plantations.
The "Sea Park" project represents the first step in the "Ostia Lido" territorial strategy, promoted by Rome City Council and funded through the ERDF 2021-2027 Regional Program with a total of €23.833 million provided by the Lazio Region. To complete the project, Rome City Council has also guaranteed an additional €30 million in funding from its own budget.
The 70% of the investment must be tendered by June 2026, while the entire redevelopment will be completed by 2028.
