Giro d'Italia 2025: the final stage to be held in Rome

from 17 January 2025 to 1 June 2025

It is the most important Italian cycling race and one of the most prestigious in the world, a supremacy it shares only with the Tour de France and the Spanish Vuelta. Ever since it was established back in 1908 by the Gazzetta dello Sport, and with the sole exception of the two world wars, every year the Giro d'Italia has crossed the length and breadth of the peninsula with an ever-changing route that alternates spectacular mountain climbs (the event's crowning glory) and flat stretches to be covered at full speed. And in homage to the Gazzetta and the colour of the paper in which it is printed, the leader of the classification wears the pink jersey.

After three gruelling weeks, with a tough route spread over 3,413.3 kilometres, the 108th edition of the much-loved Italian race will arrive, for the seventh time in its history, and for the third year running, in Rome, where, on Sunday 1 June, the twenty-first and final stage will end amidst the millenary magnificence of the Imperial Fora.

The end of the parade in Rome, with an initial back-and-forth to the Ostia coast and the eight laps of the city circuit for a total of 9.5 km, will crown the successor of Tadej Pogačar, winner, in 79h14'03’, of the last edition, ahead of Colombian Daniel Martínez and Briton Geraint Thomas.

The Giro d'Italia 2025 will start on Friday, 9 May from Durres in Albania and will take place over 21 stages, with three rest days and a total of 52,500 metres of elevation gain. It will pass through 15 out of 20 regions of Italy and will travel along the roads of Albania, Slovenia and through the Vatican City. There will be two time trials totalling 42.3 kilometres, seven sprints, three uphill finishes (Tagliacozzo, San Valentino-Brentonico and Sestriere), four high mountain stages and five for attackers. The Cima Coppi, the highest peak of the Giro, will be the Colle delle Finestre in Piedmont at an altitude of 2178 metres.

A great sporting spectacle, an extraordinary opportunity to promote tourism for Rome, a city that is always capable of reinventing itself and in which past and future coexist in the uniqueness of its monuments and streets.
