From Fiumicino Airport to Rome with an air taxi

from 4 November 2021 to 31 December 2021

The taxi of the future, a quite near future. This is VoloCity, the electric air taxi that will soon fly over the sky of the Rome. It was exhibited at the Leonardo da Vinci airport and is an innovative, technological and eco-sustainable urban mobility system developed thanks to the partnership between the German company Volocopter, the holding company Atlantia and Aeroporti di Roma. The new vehicle is scheduled to take-off in 2024: with its 18 electric motors, both silent and ecological, and with a maximum speed of about 110 kilometers per hour, it will be able to connect Fiumicino airport to the city center, through the so-called vertiports, in about 20 minutes.

Rome is one of the first cities in Europe to launch urban air mobility services, one of the most effective solutions for heavily congested city centers across the world. Operating in electric mode, in addition to being quick and comfortable, the aircraft is emission-free in flight. Once a flight has been completed, the lithium-ion batteries installed on board the aircraft can be replaced within 5 minutes, allowing for a quick turnaround and maximum safety. The aircraft on show at Fiumicino airport and in Piazza San Silvestro is the remotely guided model that can accommodate two passengers but in the first phase of the service there will be a pilot next to the passenger. The cost of the service? About 150 euros, but in the future it will cost half, almost as much as the road transport available between the airport and the city.
