Airport in the City: Fiumicino airport opens in the city center

from 1 June 2024 to 31 October 2024

A livelier and more comfortable travel experience: this is the goal of the innovative service offered by Leonardo da Vinci Airport, which has already been awarded by ACI World for the seventh consecutive year as Europe’s best airport with more than 40 million passengers precisely because of the quality of services offered to passengers. Active since May, “Airport in the City” allows passengers to check in for their flight and drop off their checked luggage in the city center, at the Roma Termini train station, well in advance of their flight time, leaving them free to continue their tour of the city hands-free before saying goodbye to Rome.

The technical partner of the initiative is OACIS, an international player that has been providing off-airport check-in services for years at various airports all over the world. The new service entails no additional cost and is for the moment only available to passengers travelling with ITA Airways on flights departing on the same day from Leonardo da Vinci Airport to any destination (except the US and Israel). Luggage must be checked in at the dedicated counter at Roma Termini station (open daily from Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at least three and a half hours before the flight departure time and can then be collected directly at the final destination airport. Baggage transfer is carried out with the utmost attention to environmental sustainability, using fuel produced 100% from renewable raw materials for transport.

In order to accelerate the implementation of new and innovative passenger opportunities, as part of the Innovation Hub programs, Aeroporti di Roma also launched “Flyandvisitrome.com”. This is a new global flight booking platform that helps travelers find and buy the best tickets, with the option of integrating a stopover in Rome: a holiday within a holiday to further attract tourist flows to Rome and Italy thanks to the use of the most advanced cross-route search tools of over 650 airlines.
