Air quality and sustainability: Ecological Sundays for the 2024-2025 winter season

from 8 October 2024 to 23 March 2025

By walking, scootering or biking you can admire the historic city center from a new perspective and breathe cleaner air. The so-called Ecological Sundays, the initiative created to alleviate air pollution and draw attention to issues of environmental sustainability, the need to limit the use of private vehicles and adopt responsible behaviors to reduce the consumption of traditional energy sources, will be back again this year.

Five Ecological Sundays are planned for the 2024-2025 winter season. Each of them will will be accompanied as always by public information and awareness-raising events on the environmental protection program that the city is implementing to improve air quality and reduce CO2 emissions. On 10 November, 1 December, 26 January, 16 February and 23 March, according to the provisions drawn up by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Waste Cycle and approved by the Giunta Capitolina, from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm, vehicles with internal combustion engines, including Euro 6, will not be allowed to circulate in the “Fascia Verde - Green Belt”. This includes the historic center, the area inside the railway ring and some other areas inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare (ring road). Taxis, NCCs, electric, hybrid or car-sharing cars, vehicles with a badge for the disabled or employed by doctors are some of the categories exempt from the ban.
