Tosca, a melodrama in three acts, on the 125th anniversary of its first performance, returns to the stage at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome with star Anna Netrebko.
The most Roman of Giacomo Puccini's masterpieces, Tosca, returns to celebrate its 125th anniversary in the place where it was first performed, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
On the occasion of this very important anniversary, the opera will be revived with the same staging, the historical one from 1900, at three different times in 2025, with three different casts and three different conductors.
The January performance will be staged under the direction of Alessandro Talevi and the sets of the first performance will be reconstructed from the original sketches by Adolf Hohenstein.
In the role of the unfortunate Tosca, are the great voices of Anna Netrebko, Anna Pirozzi, Saioa Hernández and the emerging star Anastasia Bartoli.
The first of three performances will be staged on 14 January 2025, followed by five more performances from 1 to 6 March and three repeats from 9 to 13 May.
On the podium is Michele Mariotti, succeeded by Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Daniel Oren and James Conlon.
Libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, based on the drama of the same name by Victorien Sardou.
