S.S. Lazio was initially founded as a running club on 9 January 1900 in Piazza della Libertà, in the Prati district, on the initiative of Luigi Bigiarelli, his brother and some friends.
In addition to the various sporting disciplines practised ─ rowing, swimming, hiking ─ in 1901 it began to devote itself to football. In 1926, it took the name Società Sportiva Lazio.
The colours of the club are white and light blue and the symbol is the imperial eagle, since 2010 represented by Olympia, a real Alaskan golden eagle that soars over the Olympic Stadium before matches. It is based at the S.S. Lazio Training Center in Formello, a town north of the capital, where Marco Baroni's team holds training sessions.
Together with AS Roma, S.S. Lazio is the protagonist of the famous 'Derby della Capitale,' one of the most thrilling matches in Serie A, followed by millions of football fans across Italy and abroad.
