Started in 2006 from an intuition by Stefania Miscetti and now in its 14th edition, the video art series at the MACRO museum is inspired by both a Marvel heroine and the 1989 comedy of the same name directed by Susan Seidelman). It explores, with irony and lightness, the mischievous, visionary and rebellious attitude through which women’s artistic practices engage everyday life, opening new perspectives on the world.
Conceived as a collective project, SHE DEVIL brings together, in each edition, Italian and international artists and curators, from emerging voices to established figures, invited to investigate a specific theme through the language of video. The 2026 edition focuses on the theme of fear, one of the primary emotions, and its various forms. Responding to the urges and tensions of contemporary life, the works on view approach this feeling through a variety of perspectives and formats, ranging from artist’s films and video performances to documentaries and animations.
The visual narrative places fear in dialogue with multiple dimensions of existence: transience, violence, relationships with nature and territory, identity, and the sense of belonging. The video art series unfolds as a multifaceted trajectory that not only reveals the contemporary forms of fear but also imagines its overcoming, opening toward possibilities of liberation.
Godmother of this year’s edition is the visual artist Nathalie Djurberg, one of the leading figures on the contemporary Swedish art scene.
