Dream, reality and a way of telling the world that sweeps away all logic to create new structures: the Museo Storico della Fanteria of the Italian Army hosts an exhibition dedicated to the greatest master of the Surrealism movement.
Around 80 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, engravings, lithographs, documents, books and photographs, from private collections in France and Italy, recount the journey through the art and myth of Salvador Dalí's genius and his universe, free from the rigidity of rules, where reality is made up of dreams.
Of extraordinary international significance, Salvador Dalí. Tra arte e mito (Between Art and Myth) celebrates not only Dalí's astonishing work, but also the entire European Surrealist panorama and offers a complete and fascinating perspective on one of the most influential movements of the last century, while also providing an interesting historical testimony of the feeling of those times. The works of other authors who shared with Dalí the idea of an art with a dreamlike and surreal character, such as René Magritte, Max Ernst, André Masson, Man Ray, Leonor Fini, Giorgio de Chirico, as well as writers of the calibre of André Breton, Jean Cocteau and Louis Aragon, complete the exhibition.
The exhibition itinerary is developed with an anthological approach, starting from the early years of the artist's career and the fundamental encounter with figures such as the poet Federico García Lorca, represented in the exhibition by previously unseen surrealist drawings, and the film director Luis Buñuel, present with film clips that marked Dalí's creative path. Ties that helped shape the future of one of the greatest protagonists of 20th century art. The route continues through all the phases of Dalí's artistic production, up to the last dreamlike experiments of the final years of his life.
The works on display range from many lithographs, including those related to the works of García Lorca and the Divine Comedy, drypoint engravings, drawings, tapestries, sculptures, glass objects, ceramics, jewellery, paintings and a series of photographs, books and documents that further enrich the collection.
Salvador Dalí. Tra arte e mito is organised by Navigare and set up by international exhibition curator Vincenzo Sanfo, with the support of an international committee. The exhibition enjoys the patronage of the Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale - Assessorato alla Cultura and Oficina Cultural de la Embajada de España.
