The most beloved musical comedy of the Italian tradition is back at the Teatro Sistina in its original historical setting with the direction of Pietro Garinei and the splendid music of Maestro Armando Trovajoli.
The story of the famous Roman character, written by Garinei and Giovannini with Pasquale Festa Campanile and Massimo Franciosa, presents an evocative and moving portrait of the Rome of the Pope-King: a little light-hearted, a little coward and a little audacious, where love, jealousy, chatter and knives, revolutionaries to the guillotine, nobles and commoners live, against the backdrop of taverns, palaces, churches, alleys and squares.
The young and braggart Rugantino bets with his friends that he will able to seduce the beautiful Rosetta, wife of the jealous Gnecco Er Matriciano. The man achieves his goal but falls in love, reciprocated, with the woman. When Gnecco is murdered, Rugantino, although innocent, takes the blame for the homicide so as not to lose Rosetta, who has discovered the betting affair. Going up to the gallows to be beheaded by the executioner Mastro Titta, Rugantino faces death with courage, thanks to Rosetta's love.
The show, under the supervision of Massimo Romeo Piparo, sees once again on stage Serena Autieri and Michele La Ginestra in the roles of Rosetta and Rugantino, together with Massimo Wertmuller (Mastro Titta) and Edy Angelillo (Eusebia), with the magnificent scenes and original costumes by Giulio Coltellacci, accompanied by unforgettable songs such as Roma nun fa' la stupida stasera, Ciummachella and Tirollallero.
