Friday, 5 June, the day after the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, Rome, and the Foro Italico will once again become the home of athletics. From 5:00 pm at the Stadio dei Marmi, the Roma Sprint Festival returns ‒ Italy’s fastest athletics event.
Among the major new features of this year’s edition, the youth sector will take centre stage for the very first time. Young athletes from the Esordienti and Ragazzi/e categories will compete over 60 metres, while Cadetti/e athletes will line up for the 80 metres, in races set to showcase both excitement and emerging talent.
At the heart of the programme are the National Under-20 Relay Championships, with Italy represented by three outstanding young stars: Kelly Doualla, the 2025 European Under-20 champion in both the 100 metres and the 4×100-metre relay in Tampere, and the current holder of the European Under-18 best performances in the 100 metres and 60 metres indoors; Margherita Castellani, European Under-18 and Under-20 relay champion; and Francesco Pagliarini, one of Italy’s most promising 400-metre athletes. All three will also compete in the individual 100m, 200m, and 400m events.
Alongside these rising Italian talents, the Roma Sprint Festival will feature a stellar line-up of elite athletes in the individual races, including Fausto Desalu, Olympic champion with Italy’s 4×100-metre relay team at Tokyo 2021; Lorenzo Benati, European silver medallist with the Italian 4×400-metre relay; long jumper Filippo Randazzo, who will test himself over 100 metres; Riccardo Meli, European silver medallist with the Italian 4×400-metre relay; Alessia Pavese, European bronze medallist with the women’s 4×100-metre relay; Damiano Dentato, European Under-23 silver medallist in the 200 metres; and Alexe Deau, the French sprinter who competed in the 4×400-metre relay at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
Great anticipation is surrounding the 4×100-metre relay, which will feature an exceptional line-up including Andy Diaz, world champion in the triple jump and Olympic bronze medallist, making his debut on the sprint track in what promises to be one of the most spectacular moments of the entire event. Alongside him will be Andrew Howe, Italy’s long jump record-holder, bringing his trademark class to the relay event.
Special guests for the day are Zaynab Dosso, world indoor champion over 60 metres; Lorenzo Simonelli, European champion in the 110-metre hurdles; and Eloisa Coiro, one of Italy’s leading middle-distance athletes.
