Rome is set to celebrate a week of music, participation and community spirit with the first edition of RIM – Roma in Musica, a new city-wide event promoted by Roma Capitale under the artistic direction of Daniele Silvestri. The initiative showcases the city's rich musical heritage while bringing together communities from across Rome in a collective cultural experience.
For seven days, music takes centre stage across the Eternal City, bridging the gap between the historic centre and its neighbourhoods, and transforming squares, streets and public spaces into places of encounter, creativity and discovery. Concerts, performances, talks and free events animate all 15 Municipi of Rome, featuring established artists, emerging talents and amateur musicians.
RIM – Roma in Musica has been created to celebrate and promote Rome's vibrant musical landscape, engaging the organisations, music schools, associations and artistic groups that enrich local communities every day. The project aims to build a genuine cultural map of the city while highlighting the extraordinary diversity of musical languages, genres and sounds that thrive across the capital.
The festival opens with a major musical parade travelling from Piazza Mastai to Piazza Navona. Musicians, students and residents from all the Municipi march together, accompanied by the infectious energy of Rome's marching bands Samba Precario, Cecafumo and Altrabanda. The festive procession crosses the River Tiber before arriving in the heart of the city, where audiences are welcomed by the Banda musicale del Corpo di Polizia Locale di Roma Capitale.
Throughout the festival, Piazza Navona becomes the beating heart of RIM, transformed into an open-air studio where music and conversation continuously intersect. Live radio broadcasts, curated playlists, book presentations and public discussions take place throughout the programme, all hosted by Daniele Silvestri. Special guests include Sergio Cammariere, Tosca, Stefano Fresi and Max Gazzè, who share stories from their artistic journeys and reflect on their relationship with music.
At the same time, the programme extends across the city through close collaboration with the Municipi, bringing live performances and events to neighbourhoods throughout Rome. Developed alongside local organisations and communities, the initiative transforms public spaces into places of participation and social connection, giving voice to the many musical expressions that define the city.
The festival concludes at Parco Schuster with a large-scale jam session celebrating the collective nature of music. During the afternoon, musicians from the music schools involved in the project take centre stage, while the evening sees Daniele Silvestri lead a special live set featuring established artists and guests from Rome's music scene. Adding a distinctive touch to the finale is the involvement of the city's dynamic rap community, creating an original dialogue between different styles, generations and artistic perspectives.
All events are free of charge and open to the public, reinforcing the inclusive spirit of a festival that aims to make music a shared cultural asset for the entire city.
RIM – Roma in Musica is promoted and supported by Roma Capitale – Assessorato alla Cultura e al Coordinamento delle iniziative riconducibili alla Giornata della Memoria, coordinated by the Dipartimento Attività Culturali and organised in collaboration with OTR Live.
