The Teatro Brancaccio hosts the musical dedicated to the story of the iconic American boxer and inspired by the famous movie, winner of three Oscars, directed in 1976 by John Gilbert Avildsen.
Based on a libretto by Thomas Meehan and Sylvester Stallone, adapted from the actor's screenplay, the show, presented for the first time in Italy, tells about Rocky, a small-time boxer from Philadelphia, who is selected to challenge, in place of an injured champion, the current heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed. With commitment and discipline, the boxer trains for the fight, and, at the same time, he begins his romantic relationship with the fragile shop assistant Adriana, tired of being mistreated by her brother. Over time, their feelings and inner strength grow hand in hand until the day of the challenge, when Rocky, despite having lost on points, shows the victory of spirit, determination and love.
On stage is an extraordinary cast - including Pierpaolo Pretelli and Giulia Ottonello - in an exciting mix of songs, poetry, and ensemble performances, directed by Luciano Cannito - author with Fabrizio Prolli of the choreographies - accompanied by the splendid music of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, performed by a live orchestra, conducted by Ivan Lazzara and Angelo Nigro.
